How did I end up doing birth preparation...
Even before I was pregnant, I engaged intensively with the themes of conception, pregnancy and giving birth. I felt urged to read a lot of books on these themes next to my studies in business administration and my job as Key Account Manager. This led me to self-hypnosis techniques, affirmations and breathing techniques very early in my pregnancy as per Marie F. Mongan's method described in her book Hypnobirthing. I decided to attend a Hypnobirthing course and felt that I had to go further and booked a single coaching in self-hypnosis where I programmed my desired birth on my unconsciousness. The birth in the privacy of our home was realised to 90% as per the programmed birth. And here comes the essential thing; I knew how to handle the missing 10%. Never was I tempted to have painkillers or even an epidural anaesthesia (the latter would anyway not have been possible at home). This is the key to a successful birth: to have the deep basic trust that it will be fine and to keep the responsibility in your hands, regardless what direction the birth takes. In only eight hours (measured from the first constant contraction) I gave birth to my son at home in the birth pool surrounded and well-supported by my lovely husband. Only the last two hours we were accompanied by two empathic midwifes. Self-determined, endlessly powerful and full of basic trust. I felt (and still feel) as if I was born again.
My wish is to pass on this strong emotion, the basic trust, so that your birth will be an act of strength and that not only your child but also you as mother and woman feel (re)born with a strengthened self-esteem.
